Anthony “Tony” Monaco

September 29, 1945 — January 13, 2020

Anthony Louis Monaco “Tony” was born in Buffalo, NY on September 29, 1945, the first child of Virginia and Louis Monaco.  He died in Reno, NV on January 13, 2020.   Tony spent his early years in Buffalo, NY.  He then moved out with his family to Burbank, CA where he graduated High School at Notre Dame High School.  There, he embraced the Southern California “relaxed” lifestyle.  After High School, he attended UCLA and worked at Van de Kamps.  During his second year at UCLA and still working at Van de Kamps, he met the love of his life, Karen Brissel and they were married on June 3, 1967.  Together, they raised two sons and built an idyllic life in Burbank.  After both kids were grown, Tony and Karen moved to Reno, NV in 1995.  When Tony became a grandpa (G-pa) to Claire Ryan Monaco on November 3, 2007, he knew a love like he had never known before.

Tony loved to cook and have family and friends over to his home for a meal.  He loved to entertain and share his love of cooking with family and friends.  Tony liked most sports and his favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers and LA Lakers.  He loved his family and the friends that were like family, with his whole heart.

Tony leaves behind his heartbroken family:  wife Karen, sons Louis and Kevin, daughter-in-law Nancy, granddaughter Claire, brother Jeff, sister Kathy and brother-in-law Tom, his extended Schneider family and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Tony was a devout Catholic and volunteered at Knights of Columbus.  His faith was very important to him.

A Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, January 29 at 11:00am at Our Lady of The Snows located in Reno, NV.  Reception to follow.
