April 21, 1952 — October 4, 2018

Caryn Sue Elder, beloved daughter, niece, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2018 at Saint Mary's Hospital with family by her side. Caryn succumbed after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.

She was born on April 21, 1952 to William (Bill) and Jaqueline (Jackie) Elder in Reno, Nevada.

Caryn attended  Billinghurst Middle School and graduated from Wooster High School in 1970, where she was a cheerleader. She furthered her education by attending Chapman University in Southern California and the University of Nevada, Reno. Caryn started her career as an Administrative Assistant with a local attorney, Dyer Jensen. She moved on to work for Mark Handelsman, when he was an attorney and later as he was elected to the Reno Municipal Court and the Second Judicial District. Mark passed on in 1996, and Caryn became the Administrative Assistant to Judge Deborah Schumacher in April of 1997 until she retired in April of 2012.

Caryn was lovingly nicknamed "Curly" by her uncle Gerry, a family name that stuck with her throughout her lifetime. Caryn also celebrated life with many friends whom she cherished. She treasured each friendship and enjoyed the different adventures they experienced together. Caryn enjoyed traveling, planting and caring for her beautiful flowers, celebrating football games with friends and good cheer and listening to wonderful music. She especially enjoyed a great meal with good company, and a wonderful glass of wine. Caryn's laughter, sense of humor, and warm heart will be remembered by her loving family and friends.

Caryn was preceded in death by her sister, Lauren; her father, Bill; and her brother in law, Syd. She is survived by her mother, Jackie, of Reno, Nevada; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Nevada, California and Arizona.

Caryn's family would like to express their sincere thanks for the medical care she received from Dr. Tay and the staff at Saint Mary's Center for Cancer; Dr. Van Meter and Dr. Reddy at Cancer Care Specialists; Dr. Uhalde at Sugar Pine Family Medical; and the caring 3rd floor Medical staff at Saint Mary's Hospital.

There will be no memorial service in accordance with Caryn's wishes. Although a time for remembrance and celebration will be planned at a future date.

Caryn was beloved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed. Rest in peace.
