Maureen was born on March 13, 1934 at Garnish Cross, Co. Cork, Ireland. She moved to the US as a child, later graduating from Cathedral High School, Manhattan, New York. She went onto reside at Virginia Beach, Virginia, Breezy Point, New York, West Harrison, Indiana, and Reno, Nevada, interspersed with extended visits to Ireland.
A powerhouse of a woman, Maureen was a truly lovely, very funny lady who didn't mince her words. Maureen lived a fulfilled 86 years. Whether your loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin or friend she always had a wealth of stories and advice to hand. The world is truly going to miss Maureen, but a new Star is shining in the sky. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann. - the likes of her won't be seen again.
At Maureen’s request there will be no public funeral or memorial until her ashes, along with the ashes of her brother Bill, are brought back to Ireland where she and three generations before her were born. Her wish is to have her ashes scattered at a spot where she played at the age of two, a place where her cousin James Connolly’s (NY) ashes were scattered a few years ago. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lehanmore Community Centre, Garnish, Ireland, whose email address is horizonprojects1958@gmail.com and IBAN IE 83AIBK93627810867059. BIC: AIBKIE2D please mention donation.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis. - may her dear soul rest in peace
